Open Letter
Rainbow Sash Movement
Dear Joe,

Since your email directed to Charles O'Neill came to the office of
NACDLGM (National Association of Catholic Diocesan Lesbian and Gay
Ministries) I will respond.  You referred to AGLO which is the name of
the Chicago Archdiocesan Gay & Lesbian Outreach ministry.  Their
website is www.aglochicago.org.   You raise many interesting questions.  I need
to say that NACDLGM is a network of local ministries and the
association does not and cannot make policy for the local ministries which are
independent.

NACDLGM's mission is to advocate for pastoral ministry in dioceses and parishes.
Certainly this involves education on LGBT dignity, basic human rights, and inclusion
as part of creating welcoming faith communities, but we would not be able to do this
advocacy if we entered into political advocacy as well.

That work belongs to those organizations which do not focus on close
collaboration with bishops and pastors and creating change in attitudes
person by person.

Thanks for your communication.
